Board to Decide Fate of Homewood Plaza Project Tuesday

Trustees Tuesday will vote on whether the village will move forward with a proposed public space plan.

The Homewood Village Board Tuesday is expected to vote on a proposed $500,000 public space project for the downtown area.

The project—which would be funded by revenue from a special taxing district—calls for closing Martin Avenue north of Ridge Road for about 100 feet; the remainder of the street would open to two-way traffic. The area would include such features as an ice rink, fire pit, special lighting, bistro tables, and seasonal planters and benches.

Village leaders last week held a public hearing for residents to ask questions and learn more about the project. The meeting was well-attended, and residents expressed concerns about parking and the success of an incoming boutique hotel.

The board is scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether to move forward with the project, and the design is expected to roll out in stages.

The meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., at 2020 Chestnut Road.
