Southwest TIF property purchase

Following up with a 2008 one million dollar budget earmark for strategic property aquisition, the village voted to approve the spending of $400,000 to buy 19 acres of land in Flossmoor's Southwest TIF district. Mayor Paul Braun said the price was "more than reasonable."

"This gives the village control over a substantial portion of the TIF district," Braun said.

Sidewalk replacement

Flossmoor's Heather Hills neighborhood and a few other scattered locations in town should look forward to new sidewalks soon. Assistant Public Works Director John Brunke was pleased to tell the board that Strada Construction Company's bid for the budgeted $30,000 project came in at $26,098. As a result, Brunke requested that the board allow public works to spend the fully budgeted $30,000 for additional sidewalk repairs in consideration of the favorable rate. The board approved.

Street resurfacing

The board voted to award Aplha Construction Company out of East Hazel Crest $194,294 for this year's street resurfacing program, budgeted at $200,000.

Brunke says, this year, the village plans to resurface one and one-half miles of village streets, a bigger undertaking than last year. He says public works hopes to get started on the project as early as next month.
