Flossmoor Shells Out $28,000 for Emergency Salt Supply

The board signed off on the expenditure at its Feb. 17 meeting.

Flossmoor's salt supply might have been dwindling, but trustees Monday decided slippery conditions call for a little extra cash.

The board approved spending $28,000 for 150 tons of salt—just in case.

The extra tons, combined with the village’s reserves, would meet the village's needs for another 20 snow events, according to public works director George Peluso. The public works department has handled 24 snow "events" so far this winter.

If the department doesn't end up using the salt this season, it will be stored for future use.
