Many of DeWitt’s accolades were described in the release this afternoon:

DeWitt received his Masters of Public Administration from the Illinois Institute of Technology (Chicago, IL) and during his 20 year tenure with the Investigations Bureau, DeWitt has supervised several public integrity investigations, which resulted in convictions of high-level government and public officials.  He oversaw the creation of the State’s Attorney’s Narcotics Strike Force, and reorganized the Investigations Bureau, creating an all-sworn 180 member, full-service investigations unit. As Chief, DeWitt directs the day to day operation, supervising county-wide practices and ensuring that all county and State’s Attorney’s policies are adhered to.  He is directly responsible for all staffing and personnel related issues for the Investigations Bureau.

In addition to his service as trustee on the village board, DeWitt has volunteered as a member of the Homewood Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, Homewood Veterans Committee, and the Homewood 911 Emergency Board.  He is a life member of the VFW, having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War; and his civic and professional affiliations include the Illinois Association of Chief of Police, Police Executive Research Forum the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

DeWitt will be sworn into his new position during the Nov. 22 village board meeting and he will officially begin duty on Dec. 5.
