Former Village Manager Ralph DeWitt died Saturday at the age of 63 after a bout with an infection-related illness which caused him to step down from his position only a few months after taking office.
DeWitts’ accolades go far beyond village manager, however. DeWitt has a long history with Homewood, acting as the village’s first black trustee from 2001 to 2009, according to the Sun-Times Media. Prior to that, DeWitt worked his way up to lieutenant in the Chicago Police Department before transitioning to the position of Cook County state’s attorney investigator.
DeWitt is survived by his wife Cynthia, and 29-year-old daughter, Lauren. A memorial service will be held Nov. 10 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Ravisloe Country Club, with interment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery.
