H-F Poll Patrol: What's Happening On Election Day

7:00 P.M.

  • Homewood Election Judge says voter participation appears to be slightly higher than previous years.

  • Mary Kindig of Homewood voted at 6 p.m. today. A former teacher at H-F High, her primary interest was in the D233 Board of Education race.  
  • Homewood resident Charlotte Kozig showed up at Millennium School just before 6 p.m. to vote. She said that she is opposed to the 153 referendum because she does not think that the community could tolerate the tax hike. 

4:00 P.M.

  • 161 candidate Ricardo Johnson has team members campaigning for him at Flossmoor's Public Library at 4 p.m.
  • Charisse Thompson of Homewood voted earlier today. She said that she moved to the community because of the schools, and she currently has a child in preschool. The 153 referendum was on the top of her priorities. "(I want to) make sure (District 153 schools) have the funds to keep the student-teacher ratio where it should be and make sure every student gets a quality education."

  • School District 161 Board candidate Gregg Lunceford showed up to Flossmoor's Village Hall to do some last-minute campaigning just after 3 p.m. He says that he is thinking about going to the movies while the results come in.
  • Betty Bailey of Flossmoor came out to Flossmoor's Village Hall to vote. She said that the 161 School Board race was of the most interest to her because she is concerned about the well-being of the children of the community.

3:00 P.M.

  • Susan Paris of Flossmoor, "The big thing was the School Board race." She says that she's been convincing her friends to go out and vote.
  • Sharon Cooper of Flossmoor voted today: "Every election to me is important."
  • Jennifer of Flossmoor voted at Flossmoor Village Hall today. She says there is no particular issue that she is interested in, but that she is a fulfilling her role as a community member by voting.

2:30 P.M.

  • Homewood Mayor Rich Hofeld made an appearance at the Homewood Library at 2 p.m. He told H-F Patch that he has been traveling to each polling place to deliver cookies to the Election Judges. Hofeld voted earlier today at Dolphin Lake.
  • Ivan Lugo of Homewood voted at the Homewood Library today with 153's referendum on his mind. "I support the school and think they deserve whatever they need," Lugo said. "The school is important in the kid's lives and we all (needed) the schools to get to where we are at now."
