Homewood Board Approves New Software for Police Use

The Homewood police department will use a new system to help keep up with policy and procedure changes. The system will lighten officers' workloads and speed up changes in the department.

Keeping up with changing police policies for the Homewood police department is going to be a lot easier, thanks to a new move by the board of trustees. The board approved a funding move to purchase and use Lexipol, a web-based program that will allow officers to quickly and efficiently update policy and procedure changes in the department.

“It’s a web-based program that basically assists with our policies and procedures,” police chief Larry Burnson. “It’s basically a checks and balances thing. … It’ll lighten the workload and make sure that we’re up to date with everything.”

The system will cost the village $6,950 for the first year of use, money that was moved from the license plate recognition system, phone recording system and police department equipment fund. Each of the three funding sources had more than $2,000 transferred from it into the Lexipol fund.
