Homewood Expected to Ban Assault Weapons

The village board will decide tonight if assault weapons should be banned from village limits.

While legislators will decide later today whether to override Gov. Pat Quinn's recent veto of a federally mandated conceal carry law, Homewood's village board will be making a firearm decision of their own, reports the Sun-Times Media.

An assault weapons ban is expected to pass through Homewood's village board during tonight's 7:30 p.m. community meeting. The proposed ordinance already has Mayor Richard Hofeld's support.

“Hopefully, people are like-minded and understand assault weapons are meant for killing people and they don’t have a place in our town,” Hofeld told the Sun-Times Media.

Should the ban go through, Homewood residents will have 90 days to get rid of any operating assault weapons within village limits. A $100 to $750 fee is in store for anyone who does not comply.
