Homewood Passes Tin Ceiling TIF Request

Trustees voted in favor of covering 50 percent of an exterior renovation project at the longtime Homewood bar and grill.

A request from The Tin Ceiling Tavern for $9,805 in TIF funds was approved unanimously by Homewood trustees during the Sept. 24 village meeting.

All-in-all, owners Mike and Patty Burns will be replacing 26 windows and an awning. The exterior of the Tin Ceiling will also be tuck pointed.

"We just want to make it look nicer," Tin Ceiling owner Mike Burns said. "And those windows? Oh boy. You might as well just keep them open in the winter."

The village's TIF contribution was granted through the Facade and Property Improvement Plan. It will cover 50 percent of the renovation costs.

"I think (The Tin Ceiling owners Mike and Patty Burns) should be commended for having such a nice exterior for all these years," Trustee Jay Heiferman said.

Homewood Community Development Coordinator Paula Wallrich said the village took into consideration the age of the building and additional planned springtime improvements when making the TIF recommendation.
