How Green Is Flossmoor?: Minutes With the Mayor

In this installment of "Minutes with the Mayor," Flossmoor Mayor Paul Braun gives some insight into the village's environmental conscience.

Patch gathered questions from readers, for  Mayor Paul Braun. Now, Patch will regularly air a series of video responses to the questions readers voted as most pressing.

In this edition, Braun responds to the question: How Green is Flossmoor?

We’re kind of excited about that. This past year, we’ve had a total of about $300,000 in green friendly grants. We received a grant from Cook County—from the Cook County Energy Efficiency Program—and that $100,000 was used to replace the boiler here in the village hall. This was a boiler that was about 35-40 years old, and we’ve increased the efficiency with this unit by about 25 percent. We also were successful in receiving a $200,000 grant from DCEO (Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for the State), and that (money) is for the downtown street lighting project, which is in the process of being completed now. The $200,000 towards that project is about 25 percent of the cost. So, to summarize, we’ve received about $300,000 in the past year and we’re actively continuing to focus our efforts on getting more green friendly grants.

Why Mayor Braun is there no mention of the accomplishments of the Flossmoor Green Task Force and the ongoing work being done by your Flossmoor Green Committee?

I wondered the same thing, Barb. This would have been an excellent opportunity to talk about our Green Committee.
