IL Takes Step Towards Banning Handheld Phones on the Road
The bill will now have to make its way through the senate before going to Gov. Quinn for final approval.
A bill passed by the House last Friday to ban drivers from talking on handheld phones now awaits committee action in the Senate, reports the State Journal-Register.
Homewood Rep. Will Davis supported the bill. Flossmoor Rep. Anthony DeLuca did not.

76 Illinois communities already have bans on using handheld phones while driving.
Currently, as much as 80 percent of wireless subscribers talk on their cell phones while driving, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

If the bill passes committee and floor action in the senate, it will go to Gov. Pat Quinn for final approval.
