Lifespan Lengthened for Flossmoor's Green Study Group

Flossmoor's Green Study Group's limited term will now be extended as it joins another existing commission.

Flossmoor's Board of Trustees deided to merge the Green Study Group's mission and work with Flossmoor's Community Relations Commission during their Monday night meeting.

The Green Study Group, a volunteer organization charged with the task of promoting environmental awareness and environmentally conscious behavior among the town and residents, was initially formed last summer. At the time of its inception, the lifespan of the Green Study Group was limited to one year. Since then, the group was offered a six month extension of its term during a March 7 Village Board meeting. With last night's decision, the group and its term will now be part of the ongoing Community Relations Commission.

The board made their decision to incorporate the group with the preexisting Community Relations Commission rather than establishing an entirely new Green Study Group Commission because doing the latter would add complication to an already overwhelming group of commissions and because the creation of a new commission might halt the current momentum of the group.

During the meeting, Green Study Group member Jackie Riffice said the group would be happy with either outcome so long as they can continue their current operation.

"What we want to see is our work continue and not lose what we have so far," Riffice said.

Despite some initial disagreements on how to proceed, all of the trustees were unanimous in their praise for the group, as indicated by Mayor Paul Braun's final comments.

"On behalf of the board, thank you, thank you and thank you," Braun said. "You guys have done yeoman service … I think you from the bottom of my heart for all your hard work."
