Has Flossmoor Ever Considered a K9 Unit?: Minutes With the Mayor

In this edition, Braun responds to the question: Has Flossmoor Police ever considered the addition of a K9 unit? His answer? Yep, but they're costly.

We did look at that issue a few years back and at that time the police chief reported that the cost to institute the K9 program would be about $69,000 plus it would require the addition of a full-time police officer to handle the K9 unit. So, at that time, it was determined … we couldn’t quite afford to put a K9 unit in. Now, having said that, we do have access to K9 units through our multiple aid programs with other communities here. So we have had occasion, when necessary, when the K9 unit is required on a particular investigation that we can do that through mutual aid. (It’s a) good program. (I’d) definitely like to see it in Flossmoor but again, at the current cost situation, I’m not sure that we’re able to afford to expand that service at this point in time.
