Parking Lots, Banks and Sewers: Flossmoor Village Meeting Recap

A brief recap of Flossmoor's March 5 village board meeting.

Gets Approval for New Parking Lots, Playground

The board approved plans presented by and FGM Architects to reconfigure Western Avenue School's parking lots and playground. The district said construction will take place over the summer and will be completed before school starts up again in August.

Here are some of the plan's details as listed in the presentation:

  • Current poorly-designed parking areas are to be reconfigured with an aim at improving traffic circulation
  • A redesign of the main school entry and elimination of the old canopy
  • Standing water on the playground is to be eliminated with the help of an underground storm water detention area.
  • Increased parking spaces
  • There will no longer be a drop off point for cars near the playground

The board's approval was unanimous.

Board Approves BMO Harris as New Village Bank

A recent move by Charter One, Flossmoor's current village bank, is resulting in termination of service for the village.

"(This) became a rather urgent and significant problem for us to address immediately," Flossmoor Finance Director Scott Bordui said.

The village responded swiftly. Among the banks competing to replace Charter One, BMO Harris and Chase were chosen as finalists. Bordui recommended BMO Harris as the better choice, citing exceptional customer service as a primary consideration in his decision.

Both Mayor Paul Braun and Trustee Diane Williams voiced their support for BMO Harris.

"(Harris is already) very active with the Flossmoor Business Association and they are very active within the community," Braun said.

The board approved BMO Harris unanimously.

Sewer Cleaning Contract Awarded

The board unanimously awarded lowest-bidder Visu-Sewer of Illinois the village sewer cleaning and televising contract. At a total price of $81,637.38, the contract is being awarded at less than the budgeted $90,000 allocation for sewer cleaning and televising.
