Referendum Reactions, A Farmers Market Motion Fails and 10 Years of Fencing

A motion for a three-year agreement to allow Bensidoun USA, a French farmers market management company, to manage Homewood’s Farmers Market failed during Homewood’s March 22 board meeting.

Both Community Information Coordinator Rachael Jones and Bensidoun USA Midwest Market Manager Leslie Cahill spoke at the meeting and were extremely optimistic about the potential partnership between Homewood and Bensidoun. 

However, despite their enthusiasm, Jones and Cahill were unable to garner the support of all of the trustees and, in the end, the final vote was 2-2.  Lacking the required four trustee votes to pass, the motion failed.

H-F Patch reporter gave us an at the fencing club, which ended its 10th tournament season with students bringing home more medals for the team than ever before.

Homewood-Flossmoor’s fencers competed in the Great Lakes conference, which all top-level fencing athletes to compete. Most of the powerhouses are in the north suburbs, and many athletes in those schools have been fencing from a young age. However, according to fencing coach Mark Watman, Homewood Flossmoor’s athletes always manage to hold their own.

Yemisi Dinkins, 34, of the 16400 block of Greenwood Avenue in South Holland, was charged with domestic battery and criminal damage to property after an altercation with a Country Club Hills man at the Flossmoor Station Restaurant and Brewery at 7:45 p.m., according to police. Police said Dinkins entered the restaurant, approached the man and splashed his drink in the man's face. She then knocked items from the table onto the floor and scratched the man’s neck, according to police.

The  hosted a  Board of Education candidate forum at the  last week, with all six candidates present. Audience members submitted questions and a select few were presented in front of the candidates for all to respond.
