Street Lights and Village Investments
A review of items discussed at the March 21 Flossmoor Village Board meeting.
Main Story:
Flossmoor's Village Board voted to remove First Midwest Bank from their approved list of brokers due to an unfavorable collateral agreement that was offered to them. PMA Financial will be added in its place. PMA was chosen due to their direct placement, non-negotiable CD program. The board feels PMA will round out their current mix of brokers.

With the passage of GASB 51, state and local governments are now required to account for intangible assets such as computer software. In response, the board approved a motion to integrate a software capitalization threshold into the budget.
Purchase of New Equipment:
The motion was approved for the purchase of a small one-ton dump truck and 4x4 snow plow for a combined total of $45,260 from Freeway Ford. In effort to avoid previous issues with trucks getting stuck, this vehicle will be geared toward maneuverability in cul-de-sacs and parking lots.
Capital Equipment Fund Approval:
Several pieces of public works, police, fire and computer equipment are scheduled to be replaced or upgraded for fiscal year 2012. Other replacement and maintenance projects were looked at, but the board found it appropriate to defer them.
Other Business:
The Village Board will act as a sponsor for the Flossmoor Fine Arts Fair which will be held from June 4 to June 5.
Non-Agenda Items:
Flossmoor residents Nana and Ron Cooper addressed the board seeking help to resolve a run down property located next door to them. The property, which is privately owned, has not been lived in for several years. It is filled with debris, foliage, vegetation, and rodents, according to the Coopers. Mayor Paul Braun and the village manager were well of aware of the problematic property, and assured them that the village was working on a resolving the issue.
