Now Presenting: The Homewood Project

Flossmoor residents Colin and Angela Thomas of Thomas' Photographic Services in Homewood formally presented their book of contemporary Homewood history on July 20.

Last Friday night marked the culmination of an ambitions endeavor taken on by Colin and Angela Thomas of . It also marked a significant moment in the preservation of Homewood's history.

Before the July 20 Movies in the Park feature premiered, Angela and Colin Thomas formally presented copies of the finished project to representatives of , the  and the . A slideshow featuring their work played on the enormous screen behind them as they handed over the copies.

In June of 2010, the young husband and wife team concocted the plan to photograph as many Homewood families as possible, all posing in front of their homes. The idea is a throwback to a historical tradition, explains Colin Thomas.

"Families used to take photos in front of their home because it was the best part of their property," Thomas said. 

Angela Thomas said they shot for a year and a half, finishing around the end of 2011. Over the course of the project, they photographed more than 160 participants.

"We wanted to provide an opportunity for people to get to know their neighbors," Angela Thomas said.

Anyone interested in taking a look at The Homewood Project can find it at . It will also be available for viewing at the Homewood Historical Society, Village Hall and the Homewood Public Library.

Angela and Colin say they are planning to compile another edition of Homewood Project next year.
