The U.S. Postal Service Boosts the Price of Stamps

U.S. Postal Service rate hikes go into effect Jan. 27.

The cost to mail a letter is set to rise slightly later this month, after rate changes go into effect Jan. 27, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

Stamp prices will increase one cent, from 45 cents to 46 cents, to mail one-ounce letters. This brings the cost of a standard 20-stamp book up from $9 to $9.20.

Forever stamps, purchased for 45 cents before the price hike, are always good for mailing a one-ounce letter anytime in the future regardless of price changes, according to the U.S. Postal Service.

The cost for letters weighing more than one ounce will stay the same, at 20 cents for each additional ounce, according to an announcement from the postal service.

Postcard stamps will also see a one-cent increase, from 32 cents to 33 cents. Letters weighing less than an ounce, mailed anywhere internationally, will cost $1.10, the announcement states.
