When Will All the Dead Ash Trees Be Cut Down?: Minutes With the Mayor

Patch gathered questions from readers, for  Village President Richard Hofeld. Now, we're airing a series of video responses to the questions readers voted as most pressing.

In this edition, Hofeld, along with special guest Assistant Public Works Director Patrick Ryan, answer: when will all the dead ash trees be cut down? 

Transcript:

Hofeld: The village will be finished cutting down all the ash trees, probably within the next two years. Today I have Patrick Ryan, our Assistant Director of Public Works ... maybe you can give a more elaborate answer to that.

Ryan: Right now, we have plans to do the southeast portion of the village. We already took care of a good portion of the northeast and we are heading down to a meeting next week with the contractor to talk about it. Also, one of the important things is we are in the process of grinding all the stumps and that will follow with a replanting program. Most of the Ashes should be down within two years and that's if funding is available.

Hofeld: In house, we're taking down most of the average size trees. If it's an enormous tree, we have to contract it out to tree removers. We are doing reforestation and if a person does have a tree cut down in front of their house, we will be coming back later, grinding the stump down and, if funds permit, we will be planting another tree—although a much smaller tree—in that location.
