Camp Grandma Comes to Town

Camp Grandma comes to Homewood Flossmoor...And an update on our Real Estate Market...Ron Wexler Realtor

Last week my neices and nephew from Baltimore came to town for the 2nd annual Camp Grandma week.

They came because they wanted to experience small town America the way their mom described it to them. They stayed at my moms house and loved that they could safely ride bikes around town without supervision, go to the park to play, walk to stores, climb the Willow Hill and of course go to Dairy Queen with their Cousins, Aunts and Uncles.

The other highlight is when they get to climb the tree their mother has written songs about and shares stories about with them! All told, they spent a week with us here, going between our houses, swimming at Grandmas and just hanging out.

We put them on a plane back home with lots of tears and conversations about next year's Camp Grandma! I truley believe it's amazing to be 30 minutes from an incredible city like Chicago and still feel like you live in Mayberry!

On the Real Estate Front I just completed sales in our area to several young couples who grew up in the area and understood the value of great schools like , spectacular parks, beautiful little league fields and many great restaurants to choose from. I have lived here since I was in 7th grade and couldn’t imagine raising my family anywhere else.

As painful as things are, the economy here is better than many areas and around the country. Rentals are still affordable and the foreclosures that are being purchased are getting full rehabs which adds value to our area. Things are actually looking up! Lets put that in perspective.

So far in 2012 we have had twice the number of home sales as we did the first half of 2011. The rest of that story is that our home prices have not yet stabilized. The silver lining is that our amazing community has become quite affordable and buyers are smart enough to take advantage of prices that we hope won't last much longer! When you consider interest rates are under 4% and prices are at 1995 levels there will never be a better time than now to buy! Fact is if you are upgrading, then the gap between what you are selling and what you are buying will most likely never be closer, and with the low interest rates this truly is an amazing time to make a move.

Here is a live link (which means it constantly updates) to search: Homewood area homes for sale and Flossmoor area homes for sale. Feel free to share it with anyone you know who may be looking. I hope your family has its own "Camp Grandma" and I hope you are enjoying an amazing 2012. It will continue to be a great year., I am sure of it!
