Athlete of the Week: H-F Swim Captain Tenny Looks to Steer Ship Back Downstate

Homewood-Flossmoor senior Anna Tenny was an IHSA girls swimming state qualifier last year. She has added leadership responsibilities to her workload this season.

Early in the season, girls swimming coach Tim Caldwell makes it a point to stress training over anything else. Good training habits lead to drops in times and those drops lead to postseason success.

According to Caldwell, H-F co-captain Anna Tenny has made it abundantly clear that she sees things the same way.

Tenny's drive for speed and steady practice habits, along with her accomplishments this year and the previous year, have earned her top honors as Patch's Athlete of the Week in Homewood-Flossmoor.

“She's started off in real good form and has been swimming really well, training well and right now that's an important thing to us,” Caldwell said. “It's how we train, it's not so much how we race (right now). She's been training well and racing really well, so I'm really pleased (with her).”

Tenny, a freestyle sprinter and backstroker, was a state qualifier last year and looks ready to return to the IHSA finals this season. Caldwell said she has stepped up as a captain in practice and outside the pool in leading the team.

“She's been around enough to know exactly what I expect,” Caldwell said. “If I croaked tomorrow, she'd keep things going in the right direction.”

Though Caldwell won't be croaking anytime soon by the looks of it, Tenny is definitely ready to lead the Vikings to a banner year in the pool.
