District 161's Board of Education Approves Strategic Plan

A review of items discussed at the March 14 Flossmoor School District 161 board meeting.

Main focus

The  board approved a strategic plan which will look at factors such as buildings and finances and determine their positive or negative impact on student achievement.

The plan, which is a first for the board, was worked on by community members, administrators, teachers and board members. It will be posted on School District 161's website for those who would like to review it.

Here are some Other highlights from the meeting:

District Audit: After reviewing the presented audit, the board was encouraged to look into potentially employing an internal auditor. After weighing the pros and cons, the board decided that the most sensible option was to continue working with an independent auditing agency.

Fees for the 2011-2012 year: The board approved a small fee increase of $5 for outdoor education and graduation.

Bus Lease for Mini Buses: Two new mini-bus leases were approved by the board. This will cost the district an additional $500 for the year.

Fiber Optics: A multi-year technology plan was approved, which will add new computers and increase bandwidth. According to the board, this will allow for better communication between parents, teachers and schools.

Other News: Due to logistical issues, the superintendent’s contract and the introduction of a new candidate will not be finalized until the next board meeting.
