Learn about destructive marriages and divorce from a Christian perspective at SXU

Author and Saint Xavier University Professor Troy W. Martin, Ph.D., will speak about destructive marriages from a Christian perspective at the University's next Theology South lecture. The lecture, titled “Abusive Husbands, Christian Divorce and Catholic Annulment in a Narcissistic Age,” is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Thurs., April 5 in the Butler Reception Room, located in the Warde Academic Center of SXU's Chicago campus, 3700 W. 103rd St. It costs $6 and is open to the public. Coffee will be served at 9 a.m. and a question-and-answer session will follow the lecture.

The presentation is based on Martin’s book "I Promise to Hate, Despise, and Abuse You Til Death Do Us Part: Marriage in a Narcissistic Age," which he co-authored with his daughter Andrea V. Oelger. It explains how the Bible permits divorces in destructive marriages with egotistical husbands, and offers strategies on how to maintain marriages should wives choose to stay.
