H-F High School Foundation to Host Inaugural Golf Outing

Day to include golf, dinner, football game and post-game alumni/community school spirit party

The Foundation is seeking golfers and sponsors as well as community and alumni who want to come out and have fun while supporting a great cause: their inaugural golf outing, dinner and alumni/community event on Friday, Oct. 14 at .

The non-profit group hopes the activities will raise $15,000 to help it address the growing number of grant applications it has been receiving from faculty and staff.

For example, the foundation is currently reviewing the debate club’s request of $5,000 for travel to a national debate tournament at the University of Michigan and the Symphony Orchestra’s request of $8,150 to travel to Brazil for an international performing tour. Last May, $1,200 was awarded to the Guidance Department to help underwrite the cost of a new system that helps students search for colleges.

“In recent years, we have worked to extend awareness of the foundation within the school and, consequently, now have increased grant requests which exceed our capacity,” Executive Director of the Foundation, David Tracy, said.

President Mary Lou Coleman agreed.

“It’s time to introduce ourselves more the community and let them know what we’re all about,” Coleman said. “Now, more than ever, we need support from the community to ensure that the foundation will continue as a resource for our students.”

The foundation has typically raised about $10,000 annually, mostly through the sale of $15 school calendars (which has been declining as a result of new technologies), and $100 commemorative bricks that are customized and placed by the entrance to the South campus.

Over the years, the foundation has provided more than $225,000 in support for a variety of uses such as:

  • Underwriting travel expenses for the Debate Club, Model United Nations, DECA Business Club, H-F Mastersingers, H-F Theater groups, etc.
  • Purchasing cameras and computers for a variety of student activities such as the track team’s recent purchase of a state-of-the-art photo finish camera.
  • Facilitating start-up costs for programs such as Operation Snowball, the Inspirational Voices, Steppers Club, Lacrosse Club and “Backstage with the Stars” program.

“We value a superior education for our students and wish to work with the district, local businesses, parents and students to help insure that H-F remains at the forefront of schools in the nation in terms of quality education,” Tracy said.

The events on Friday, Oct. 14 will begin with a shotgun start at 11:30 a.m. (scramble, “best ball” format), cocktails at 4:30 p.m., dinner at 5:30 p.m. All golfers also will receive a complimentary ticket to the H-F varsity football game, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Following the football game, the Alumni/Community School Spirit Party will be back at Northwoods and will feature a pizza buffet, raffle drawings and live entertainment by local favorite Xtra, Xtra.
