Homewood-Flossmoor District 233 Athletic Director Dies Suddenly

Homewood-Flossmoor District 233 Athletic and Activities Director Alec Anderson died after a medical emergency at the school Wednesday, Aug. 7. Anderson, 54, was set to begin his second year in the position.

Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School District 233's Athletic & Activities Director Alec Anderson died Wednesday after experiencing a medical emergency while using a treadmill at Homewood-Flossmoor High School, the district announced.

Anderson, 54, was set to begin his second year as athletic and activities director for the district. 

“During his time with us at H-F, Alec made a tremendously positive impact on our staff and students through his spirit and commitment to our school," says Superintendent Dr. Von Mansfield. "He was a dedicated administrator who always had students' best interests in mind. He will be missed as a colleague and friend. Our most sincere condolences and prayers go out to his family and friends."

The school is offering support through its Guidance Office for staff and students who need assistance during this difficult time.

Anderson's professional profile, as provided by the district:

Alec Anderson joined the H-F administrative team as the district's Director of Athletics & Activities in July 2012. He had more than 15 years experience in athletic administration. He served Bolingbrook High School as the Assistant Principal of Athletics & Activities from 2005-2012. Previously, he was the Director of Athletics at Evanston Township High School and served as the Assistant Principal/Athletic Administrator at Urbana High School District 116.

During his career, he served as a high school teacher, head football coach and assistant coach for wrestling, baseball and track. Anderson held a B.S. in History and Physical Education from Southern Illinois University - Carbondale and a M.A. in Education, Administration and Supervision from Governors State University. A certified athletic administrator, he was a member of the National Interscholastic Association of Athletic Administrators and served the Illinois Athletic Directors' Association as the State Awards Chair. He also served on committees for the Illinois High School Association.
