Marian Catholic Band Claims Top Honors at Illinois State University

The band took top prize in the 4A class at the State of Illinois Invitational Saturday, April 26.

For the second consecutive year, the Marian Catholic High School band has finished at the top of its class in the State of Illinois Invitational Contest.

The band took their talents to Normal, Illinois on Saturday April 26, at Illinois State University. Twenty-six schools brought their best sound to represent numerous classes.

The Spartans prevailed as the top band in their respective class.  The Marian band was crowned as 4A Symphonic Overall Champion with a total score of 96.3 beating the next closest opponent by five points.

“Our kids deserve ever honor they receive, they continue to work hard and it’s showing with every performance, I’m very proud of them,” said band director Mr. Greg Bimm. The Concert Band, directed by Bobby Lambert, performed in the 2B class, where they were also given top honors of their class. 

The performances were judged by some well-known musical adjudicators in the Midwest. They consisted of: Dr. Glenn Hayes from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, Dr. Paul Popiel from University of Kansas, and Professor John T. Madden, Michigan State University.

As the season winds down, the Marian Catholic Band looks to close another historic year with one more title.  On Thursday May 8, the band will perform their Spring Concert here at Marian Catholic, followed by a final performance at University of Illinois at Champaign on Friday My 9, for the Illinois SuperState Competition.
