Two New Principals Hired in School District 161

Flossmoor School District 161 announced the hiring of two new principals and one new assistant principal for the upcoming school year.

Two new principals, one each for Parker Junior High School and Serena Hills School await returning students the upcoming school year. District 161 hired Lynn Westerlund and Cristina Romo to fill the roles at Parker and Serena Hills respectively, according to a release on the district’s website.

Westerlund began teaching in the district in 1990, as a second grade teacher at Western Avenue School. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master’s Degrees from National-Louis University.

Romo, who earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia College and Master’s Degrees in Educational Leadership from American College of Education, previously worked as a K-8 principal in Maywood-Melrose Park-Broadview School District 89. The district chose Romo for her “bilingual proficiency, strong instructional leadership skills and educational background,” according to the release.

The district also announced the promotion of Bruce Nieminski to assistant principal of Parker Junior High School. Nieminski previously taught social studies teacher at Parker, and has since 2008. All will begin their new roles on July 1.
