District 153 to Dedicate "Gale's Giving Garden" on Tuesday

District 153 will dedicate new community garden in memory of Gale Gallagher on Tuesday, July 31st.

School District 153 will dedicate a new community garden at Willow School in the memory of former school board member, Gale Gallagher, on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 7 p.m.  The public is invited to attend.

Located in one of Willow School’s enclosed courtyards, “Gale’s Giving Garden” will feature 8-10 beds each growing a different fruit or vegetable.  Classrooms will adopt beds to plant and nurture, and the harvested produce will be donated to local organizations that help the less fortunate.

“I believe Gale would be pleased to be remembered in this way,” said District 153 School Board President Shelly Marks.  “She was an avid gardener with a very big heart when it came to helping others.  Moreover, her passion as a school board member was to ensure that our youngest students at Willow started their educational journey in the strongest possible way.”

Seed money for the community garden was provided by a grant from Foundation 153, the school district’s education foundation, with additional funding from private donations in honor of Gallagher.

Gallagher passed away on March 7, 2012 after 13 years of service on the board of education.
