HF Football Players Act as Reading Role Models at Willow School

Willow School hosted a Big Guy/Little Guy Reading Night on April 5th.

It's a problem familiar to many parents with sons: how do you get boys to read more? Indeed, national educational statistics consistently show that young male readers significantly lag behind their female counterparts in literacy skills.

One issue that comes up in virtually all resources on male literacy is a shortage of male reader role models.  Too often, boys view reading as a feminine activity and steer away from it.

Willow School sought to address this issue head on.  On April 5th, student-athletes from HF High School's football team came to Willow to provide some positive male reading role models.  The evening's activities combined reading with physical play demonstrating that reading can be both fun and manly.
