Millennium School's Karen Gnatt Earns Recognition for Teaching Excellence

Millennium School's Karen Gnatt is named this quarter's Jerry Morin Excellence in Education Award winner.

Millennium School 5th-grade teacher Karen Gnatt was presented with Jerry Morin Excellence in Education Award at the December 12th Board of Education meeting. The quarterly award recognizes outstanding teaching in School District 153 and was established in honor of former school board member Jerry Morin who retired in 2007 after 14 years of service.

According to Shirley Watkins, Gnatt is a leading innovator and problem solver on staff and has earned a reputation as the building's "math whiz." Gnatt mentors new teachers and is the 5th-grade staff team leader.

"Mrs. Gnatt is a fierce advocate for her students and always seems to find the learning potential in each one.  She works hard to make personal connections with her students, connections that can make all the difference to a child," said Watkins.

Gnatt also was cited for her sponsorship of the school's Early Act Club. The Early Act Club, supported by the Homewood Rotary Club, undertakes several community service projects throughout the school year.
