Regarding small businesses in Homewood-Flossmoor, I am hard pressed to choose a favorite. My husband, Steve, and I bought locally whenever possible, so I'd have to name Dunning's Market, Ace Hardware and Panera Bread in Cherry Creek; The Art Corner, Thomas Photography, Marlene's (sewing) in Southgate; The Cottage on Dixie, Fresh Starts, and Sweet Annie's in Flossmoor. But if I had to choose a favorite it would be Dunning's in Cherry Creek for its overall quality, cheerful busi-ness, helpfulness, creativity in development of a long-time Homewood business. In the big snow of 1967, Mr. Dunning Sr. parked a delivery truck in front of the market, then in Southgate, and sold bread and milk from the truck to neighbors who snowshoed up to Dixie Highway. My top choices for small businesses in the are are the two I have frequented the most in the last year. The Cottage on Dixie is a welcome addition to the area with its farm to table philosophy of dining, its wine and craft beer selections, its seminars featuring wine and craft beer pairings, its fabulous in-house bakery items, its well-trained and welcoming staff, and its overall seamless dining experience. What a welcome addition to the area. My second most-visited local business is an "old timer," The Great Frame-Up in Homewood. Excellent and timely service along with great help in getting almost anything framed. Gary and Marian do a great job. Stop in some time.

My two favorites are Thomas Photography and Bloomberg Gardens but, really, I try to stay in the village as much as possible.
