Athlete of the Week: H-F's Kirchler Hits One Out of the Park
In four games, Vikings' standout Ben Kirchler produces eight hits and goes for the cycle, too.
You can’t ask for a much better week than Homewood-Flossmoor's Ben Kirchler enjoyed on the baseball diamond.
In four games, Kirchler hit for the cycle in one game, had eight hits, seven RBIs and scored seven runs. On top of all that, the Vikings won all four games and improved to 8-1.
As a result of his hot hitting, Kirchler is being recognized today as the Patch Athlete of the Week.

It all started against Thornton Fractional South. Kirchler scored the winning run on a balk in the bottom of the ninth inning. Then on Tuesday against Thornwood, he had two hits four RBIs and scored three runs.
On Wednesday against Peotone, Kirchler had a game he won’t soon forget. He hit for the cycle, connecting for his first home run while also driving in three runs and scoring three runs.

He added two hits in the Vikings' 5-1 win over Bradley-Bourbonnais.
“I can’t remember ever having a week like this,” Kirchler said.
