Baseball: H-F Takes Care of Business in Win over Bloom

Homewood-Flossmoor 14, Bloom Township 2. Vikings reserves see plenty of action in final regular season game, IHSA playoffs next.

Touching All the Bases: After a scoreless first three innings, H-F's bats finally heated up in a 14-2 six-inning victory over Bloom Township.  In the fourth, the Vikings scored seven runs and had eight consecutive batters reach base.  The Blazing Trojans bounced back with two runs of their own in the fourth on a two-run homer by Brian Hankey. But H-F scored three runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth to close out the game. Viking starting pitcher Aaron Johnson was solid in his first start, picking up the win. He went four innings, giving up two runs on two hits while striking out two.

Patch’s MVP: Anfernee Roberts, H-F. Roberts had two hits, two walks, a stolen base, drove in two runs and scored three runs.

H-F Leaders: In addition to Roberts, Ryan Redmond had three hits, including two doubles, and scored three runs. Jon Diemer scored three runs.

Bloom Township Leaders: In addition to Hankey, the only other hit for the Blazing Trojans came from Renato Perez. He singled in the second inning.

Quotable I: “Coach told me to focus on location, so I did my best to hit the spots,” H-F’s Aaron Johnson said.

Quotable II: “Renato (Perez) pitched real well, kept us in the game. Obviously, a few plays hurt us,” Bloom Townships Erich Stockwell said.

Team Records: H-F closes the regular season with a 19-11 record, while Bloom Township finished 7-19.

What’s Next: Bloom Township travels to Shepard for a 4:30 p.m. game on Monday in the Shepard Regional, while H-F takes on the winner of Thornton vs. Brother Rice in a H-F regional semifinal game at home at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
