Boys Basketball: Homewood-Flossmoor Falls Short against Crete-Monee

Crete-Monee 53, Homewood-Flossmoor 37. The Vikings were stuck playing catch-up ball from beginning to end against the Warriors in Wednesday's Class 4A Thornwood Sectional semifinal.

The Hot Read: Homewood-Flossmoor fell behind 5-0 at the start and never recovered in a 53-37 boys basketball loss to Crete-Monee in the Class 4A Thornwood Sectional on Wednesday night. The Vikings trailed 8-6 midway through the opening quarter but would never get any closer, falling behind by double digits for the first time with 5:32 left in the second quarter. The Warriors led 26-19 at halftime and wouldn't allow Homewood-Flossmoor to get any closer than seven points in the second half.

Patch's MVP: Homewood-Flossmoor senior Julian Lewis finished his career in fine fashion, doing his part to keep the Vikings in the contest by scoring a game-high 17 points.

Key Stats: Homewood-Flossmoor made just 3-of-19 three-pointers. The Vikings committed 12 turnovers, while Crete-Monee had eight turnovers. Crete-Monee only outrebounded Homewood-Flossmoor 35-34, but there were occasions when the Warriors were able to convert offensive rebounds into easy baskets. Crete-Monee had a balanced scoring attack with three players in double figures and another with eight points.
