Even as a Reserve, Rencher Sparks H-F

Homewood-Flossmoor junior Delvon Rencher was kept out of the starting lineup Friday night. But when Rencher entered the game, he gave the Vikings a big lift on their way to .

Rencher, a slender 6-foot-5, 190-pound speedster, was active on both sides of the ball and finished with 12 points (tied for the H-F lead) and five rebounds.

"I had to come out hard off the bench . … I had to bring some energy,” he said. “That spark gave us the lead.”

Rencher said he was kept out of the starting lineup because he was late to school Friday morning. H-F coach Jim McLaughlin laid down the punishment before the game but praised Rencher’s performance afterward.

"He really got us going in the second half and kept us in the game," McLaughlin said. "Delvon was great around the basket and especially against the zone. We fed him the ball and he got the job done."

Rencher is undecided about his college choice, but his favorite subject is physics and he plans to study astronomy. Rencher may be burning up the track this spring, but he said he’ll decide that when the basketball season is over.
