Flossmoor Firebirds Go 7-1 in Cooperstown

After winning their first seven games, Firebirds fall to Long Island in quarterfinals. Homewood softball 12-year-old squad falls in finals of tournament in Kentucky.

The Flossmoor Firebirds 12-U baseball team had a successful trip to Cooperstown, N.Y., last week, despite falling short of reaching the finals.

The Firebirds went 7-1 on the week, winning most of their games with ease. They won their first seven games by a combined score of 97-19.

The Firebirds routed New Castle, N.J., 29-3; they beat Bridgewater, N.J., 9-4; they pounded Fort Caroline, Fla., 16-2; they stomped St. Charles, Ill., 13-2; they hammered Libertyville, Ill., 15-4; they crushed the Colorado Double Diamonds 6-0; and they walloped Fort Caroline, Fla., 14-4.

The Firebirds dropped their final game to Long Island, N.Y., by a score of 8-5.

Homewood Softball All-Stars Fall in Final

The Homewood 12-year-old softball All-Stars fell just short of winning a tournament in Kentucky. Homewood won its first three games of the tournament by scores of 6-0, 13-2 and 10-0.

Homewood defeated Prairie Village 4-2 in the semifinals before losing to Fern Creek, Ky., 3-1, in the finals.
