Football: H-F Uses Quick-Strike Offense to Steamroll Chicago Senn

Homewood-Flossmoor 76, Senn 6: Vikings score on first two offensive plays, jump to 62-0 halftime lead and cruise home in Friday's football opener.

Breaking It Down: Homewood-Flossmoor jumped to a 27-0 lead in Friday's football season-opener and rolled to a 76-6 non-conference victory. The game was all but decided in the first quarter. After H-F's defense held Chicago Senn on the opening possession, the Viking offense took over at Senn's 31. On the first offensive play of the season, quarterback Tim Williams hooked up with tight end Willie Ross in the end zone for a touchdown. The Vikings attempted a two-point conversion but failed.

On the next possession, the Vikings took over at Senn's 21. This time, it was running back Sheldon Jones scampering into the end zone to make it 13-0. Two plays, two touchdowns. It became 20-0 when Williams completed a touchdown pass to Gerald Butler. The final score of the first quarter came from running back Taje Smith. The Vikings scored five touchdowns in the second quarter and two more with a running clock in the second half.

Patch’s MVP: H-F kicker Anthony Crescenti has to be icing his leg after this one. Crescenti was 10-for-10 on extra points.

H-F Stat Pack: Six different Vikings scored in the win. Tim Williams passed for two touchdowns in the first quarter. H-F finished with a 320-109 edge in total offensive yardage and won the battle of time of possession 36:54 to 11:06. Smith rushed for 79 yards on six carries and scored four touchdowns. Williams went 4-for-4 for 68 yards and two TDs.

Chicago Senn Stat Pack: Senn mustered two first downs in the first quarter, both coming on penalties by H-F.

Quotable I: "We didn't know what to expect in the opening game," Vikings coach Craig Buzea said. "We got some of the wrinkles ironed out, but still have a lot to work on."
