Football: Ward Flea-Flicker Highlights H-F's Rout of Deerfield

Homewood-Flossmoor 47, Deerfield 0: Vikings jump out to huge lead for second week in a row and roll to 2-0 start.

Breaking It Down: For the second week in the row, Homewood-Flossmoor's football struck early and often and put the running clock in motion in the second half. The Vikings dismantled Deerfield 47-0 on Friday night at H-F. The victory followed on the heels of H-F's 76-6 rout of Chicago Senn in Week 1.

The Vikings suffered a heartbreaking loss vs. Evanston in Week 2 last season, and they were on a mission to make sure they didn't stub their toe again. Mission accomplished.

H-F jumped to a 40-0 first-half lead as quartertback Tim Williams hooked up with wideout Gerald Butler for the opening score with 8:30 left in the first quarter. Williams made it 14-0 on the next possession as he ran into the end zone from 15 yards out. The highlight of the game was a flea-flicker from Williams to Antione Ward, who found wideout Sean Jones alone in the end zone for a touchdown. A Deerfield team that relies on the run had no chance once it fell behind.

Deerfield Stat Pack: H-F's defense shut out an overwhelmed Deerfield team, allowing Deerfield less than 100 yards of total offense. Deerfield did not complete a pass (0-for-4).

Quotable I: “Three parts to the season," H-F coach Craig Buzea said. "One is the non-conference schedule, and we fared pretty well with that. We have to focus now on a Lincoln-Way Central team that we beat last year. So, we know they will be gunning for us."

Quotable II: “We came out and tried not to be too relaxed,” Vikings quarterback Tim Williams said. “Last year, we came out and lost our second game against a team we should have beat.”

Team Records: H-F is 2-0. Deerfield is 0-2.

What's Next: H-F travels to Lincoln-Way Central on Friday, Sept. 9. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. Deerfield will take on Maine South.
