Gimme 5: H-F's Fatoki Shines In and Out of Classroom

David Fatoki, a basketball/baseball standout, led Vikings to many victories and also did well academically. He's heading to Washington University in St. Louis on a pre-med track.

Homewood-Flossmoor senior David Fatoki had one of those good problems on his hands. Should he go to such and such school and play basketball or go to this other school and play baseball?

Fatoki chose Washington University in St. Louis. He will definitely play basketball and also hopes to play baseball.

"It is a very good academic school, and it is just a good fit for me," Fatoki said.

He will major in business finance on a pre-med track. He feels teammates would describe him as funny, always upbeat and just a good guy to be around.

His favorite baseball team is the Cubs and his favorite player is Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro.

When asked to pick between taking the last shot in state playoff basketball game or pitching the last inning of a state playoff baseball game, Fatoki chose pitching.

"It is just you against the batter and you are in control of things," he said.

He lists his favorite high school sports moment as the Viking basketball team's Proviso West championships game against Benet. Despite the overtime loss, Fatoki played well. He scored 10 points.

He will consider this baseball season an even greater success if he and his Vikings can win their own regional this weekend.

What's next? Fatoki is one of the better two-sport athletes at H-F and no doubt will be a success in life on and off the field.
