Gimme 5: H-F's Lewis Elevates His Game to Legendary Status

Vikings' standout basketball player was a sparkplug in the high school boys victory over their professional counterparts in McDonald's McLegends game.

Homewood-Flossmoor's Julian Lewis was a two-year basketball standout for the Vikings. The 6-5 forward averaged 16 points and 6 rebounds in that span, guiding H-F to back-to-back regional championships. He also served as the team’s captain.

But his lasting legacy might be the performance he turned in on Saturday in an all-star game. Lewis participated in the McDonald's McLegends basketball game at Thornton. He scored 17 points, including the first basket for the high school team in overtime of its 123-122 win over the pros.

Lewis used to play both basketball and baseball. When he reached high school, he picked basketball because it was more exciting for him. He lists Magic Johnson as his favorite player because of his versatility and his ability to find open teammate at all times.

Lewis is still unsure as to what he wants to do next year but will play collegiate basketball somewhere. He has drawn interest from schools like Toledo and Tennessee-Martin.

He said the Vikings' sectional semifinal win over Thornton last season was the highlight of his high school career. His favorite subject in school is economics.

If Lewis doesn’t make it to the pro level in basketball, he wants to do something in the sports industry.
