Gimme 5: Homewood-Flossmoor Park District Public Relations Man Gets a Rush Out of His Job

From issuing press releases to answering questions about events, Brett Rush does it all in a bid to spread the message of the H-F park district's offerings to the community.

Brett Rush is the marketing and public relations manager for the Homewood-Flossmoor Park District.

He has a background in public relations and communications. He spent several years working for Lions Clubs International as well as taking on contract work for the American Hospital Association.

“I love to work with the community and love to work with the people,” he said.

A typical day for Rush is exciting and diverse as he works with all different facets of the park district's operation.

“I work with the facility managers at the ice arena, golf course, racquet and fitness club as well as Irons Oaks,” he said. “I also get to work with members of the community, spreading the word about our events and answering any questions they might have.”

Rush feels his biggest challenge each day is staying organized.

“I work with a lot of different people and do a lot of different things,” he said. “One day, in the morning, I could be creating banner art for a program. We could be having or scheduling press releases or taking photos at an event that our park district hosts.”

In his spare time, Rush loves to read, hit golf balls at the Coyote Run driving range, and he is still active in the Lions Club. One of his goals for the upcoming year is to make the outdoor concert series Starry Nights even more popular.

“I want to make it even bigger and better than it already is," Rush said. "It is such a great program, where people can bring their own blankets and chairs and watch a great concert.”
