Gimme 5: Homewood's Donermeyer Brings Heat to Softball Diamond

12-under Heat softball standout Meagan Donermeyer excels in all facets of the game.

Homewood 12-year-old all-star Meagan Donermeyer is a star in the making in softball. She can do it all, whether it be hitting, pitching, fielding or running.

Donermeyer has on-field intelligence far-surpassing many opponents her age.

Her dominance was on display in the recent Flossmoor Softball Tournament. Donermeyer helped lead the Heat to the championship in the 12-year-old division.

In the title game against rival Flossmoor, Donermeyer guided the Heat to victory both on the mound, where she threw four perfect innings, as well as at the plate.

Donermeyer picked up the sport when she was 5 years old. She said her favorite part of softball is the in-game competition.

She feels her teammates would describe her as a leader. And she lists Jennie Finch as a role model.

This math whiz would rather strike out a hitter to win a game than hit a home run.

"It makes me feel like I have done my part," Donermeyer said.
