H-F Racquet & Fitness Club Hosts USTA National Women’s Indoor Championships

The deadline for the May 14–18 tournament is April 30.

The H-F Racquet & Fitness Club (the Club), located at 2920 W. 183rd St., in Homewood will host the USTA National Women’s 35, 45, 55 Indoor Championships for the 23rd year. Sanctioned by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), United States Tennis Association/Midwest Section, and the Chicago District Tennis Association, all United States Tennis Association (USTA) members, regardless of nationality or residence, are welcome to participate in this event. Tournament registration closes April 30.

The Club will host the Championship May 14–18, 2014. Coming from across the U.S., more than 50 top-ranked tennis players are expected to participate in the tournament. In the past years in addition to Illinois some of the states being represented include California, Colorado, South Carolina, Missouri, Wisconsin, Colorado, Tennessee, New York, Florida, Texas, Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

The tournament officially starts on Wednesday, May 14. The night before, the annual Pro-Am Doubles “Fun” Social will be held. This fun event matches those nationally ranked players who are participating against the Club’s tennis pros.

The Club’s Tennis/Racquet Sports Department was recently honored with four of the 11 awards for 2013 achievements presented during the 25th Annual Chicago Tennis Patrons Evening of Champions including induction of the Racquet Sports Manager, Sylvia Gothard, into the Chicago Tennis Hall of Fame. The Club has been recognized several times for its outstanding tennis programming that includes a successful USTA Junior Team Tennis program, its commitment to the new QuickStart format for children’s tennis including free Play Days, and its adult USA 1-2-3 program including its “ReStart Tennis” program adopted by the USTA/Midwest Section. It has been recognized as the United States Tennis Association Facility of the Year and USTA National Member Organization of the Year. It has been one of the top 50 Tennis Welcome Centers three times as well as the Racquet Sports Industry Tennis Welcome Center of the month.

The Club focuses on the development of all players—beginner to seasoned. Its programs for Juniors comprise USA Elite Tournament Development as well as Junior Excellence levels for both competitive and recreational players. In addition, the Club has created an incentive program for its junior players called “Managing My Success”.

For many years the Club has been voted the Chicago Southlands #1 Health/Sports Club. The Club has also been awarded three times the Chicago District Tennis Association and Chicago Tennis Patrons Facility of the Year. In the last 25 years, the Club’s Tennis Department has been recognized for 18 various awards.
