Hot Shot: HF’s Abieya Ehimwenman Honored as Athlete of the Week
Vikings' track standout puts her name in H-F record book just like her brother; she is headed to Ohio State and following in his footsteps.
Homewood-Flossmoor girls track and field standout Abieya Ehimwenman is asked all the time if she picked Ohio State as her college because her brother Nosa (H-F Class of 2000) went there.
“Actually, no," she said. "A lot of people want to say that, but he wasn’t (the reason). I had a lot of options, and I felt Ohio State was my best fit.”
As the Vikings prepare to transition into the outdoor season, Ehimwenman is performing at a high level. In Saturday’s H-F co-ed invite, she dominated her events, outdistancing her rivals in the 400-meter dash, the long jump and the triple jump.

As a result of the sparkling performance, she is honored as Patch's Athlete of the Week.
“I know I can always get better,” Ehimwenman said. “I am really excited for my senior year (outdoor season).”

Ehimwenman serves as one of H-F's captains. She finished second in the IHSA state meet last season in the triple jump to Downers Grove South’s Tori Franklin.
Franklin is a senior and the two figure to collide again at state this year.
As for who she turns to for direction, Abieya said she seeks the advice of Nosa, who helps out with the H-F long jumpers.
