It's Turnabout for H-F Girls Water Polo Team

Fenwick avenges last year's state quarterfinal showdown by ending the Vikings' 2011 season.

The dream of a state title for Homewood-Flossmoor’s girls water polo team was dashed on Thursday.

Last year, H-F defeated state power Fenwick in the state quaterfinals, and the Vikings earned fourth place in state. But on Thursday at Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Fenwick got payback by besting the Vikings 10-7 in the state quarterfinals. 

The Vikings ended the season with a 29-4 record.

H-F Track and Field Success

Several H-F boys track and field members fared well in the Bloom Township Sectional on Thursday. Advancing to next week’s state meet at Eastern Illinois University will be Ephraim Dorsey (800-meter run), Josh Nance (400-meter dash) and the  4 x 200 relay team and the 4 x 400 relay team.

H-F’s girls soccer team will look to win its own regional today when it hosts Mother McAuley at noon. … H-F’s boys tennis team hosts a sectional starting at 9 a.m. today.

Diamond Doings

Both the H-F baseball and softball teams got off to hot starts this season but have had some struggles in conference. Both teams will look to make some noise in the state playoffs beginning next week.

The baseball team will host a regional and begin play on Wednesday against the winner of Thornton and Brother Rice game, beginning at 7 p.m.

The softball team will also host a regional and will take on Lincoln-Way Central on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
