Playing H-F is Like Playing Pick Your Poison

Touting a deep and talented roster, the Vikings keep boys basketball opponents on their toes because of a balanced attack.

Homewood-Flossmoor's attack came from every which way possible in a boys basketball game at Bolingbrook on Friday night. And that is exactly how coach Jim McLaughlin likes it.

H-F defeated Bolingbrook 71-49 to improve its record to 11-3. Julian Lewis starred for the Vikings with his 16-point effort, though he wasn't the only one filling the basket.

Lewis was one of three Vikings to reach double-digit scoring. Tyrone Sherman tacked on 16 points, while Delvon Rencher chipped in with 10.

Two more Homewood-Flossmoor players missed double figures by a single tally, but it was not as if their contributions were overlooked.

"We basically had five guys in double figures, so any time you get balanced scoring you'll usually come out on top," McLaughlin said.

David Fatoki dropped three 3-point buckets, stretching the Raiders' defense to the perimeter, creating enough of an opening for Homewood-Flossmoor's players to get baskets around the hoop and other high-percentage areas.

Antonio Bishop, a 6-7 forward, was one of the beneficiaries of Fatoki's strong outside presence. He banked in nine points on the block for the Vikings. Fellow forward Marcus Hill added seven as H-F flexed its muscle and showed its depth.

Depth, size and strength turned out to be the deciding factors for the Vikings, especially after withstanding Bolingbrook's opening barrage.

"We had to be able to handle their first punch and they threw a big one to get going," McLaughlin said. "We were able to counter with our speed and size on the glass. We had it working together and were able to change the flow of the game."
