Infant Jesus of Prague School teacher is celebrated with Outstanding Teacher Award

“3 x 3 + 10 – 17 x 50 – 95 x 4 + 1 /3 x 5,” was a mathematical problem proclaimed by Infant Jesus of Prague School teacher, Mr. Kevin Gallagher on Friday, October 5, 2012. The anticipation of the correct answer was apparent. The 6th grade students scratched their heads, fiddled with fingers and tapped toes with excitement.

Lessons like these were the reason the teacher was awarded with a nomination for “Outstanding Teacher” by St Ignatius College Prep School. Every year incoming freshman at the exemplary High School nominate elementary school teachers who have had the most influence on their education and lives. “I like to make the students think,” said Gallagher, when asked as to why he expects students to complete such complex mathematical problems. In the process of making the students think, Gallagher continues to encourage them to be curious and motivated.
