Starry Nights Concert & Community Block Party featuring Staff Infection & The South Side Horns

Staff Infection & the South Side Horns — a rock band whose members are made up of faculty, staff and alumni from Homewood-Flossmoor Community High School — will be the featured act in Homewood-Flossmoor Park District’s Starry Nights concert, set for 7 p.m. July 3, in Irwin Park. Staff Infection’s specialty is brass-heavy rock and roll.

Concertgoers can expect to hear Motown hits and songs from horn-heavy bands and artists, such as Chicago and Stevie Wonder. The gates open at 6 p.m. for this free show. Games will be available for kids, and food and drink will be available for purchase from local vendors, such as Wiley’s Grill, Aurelio’s Pizza, Cilantro’s and Mitchell’s Ice Cream.

Staff Infection members include: Jon Elfner (H-F teacher); Brian Dvorkin (H-F staff); Paul Fasse (H-F teacher); Alicia Rodriguez (H-F guidance counselor); Steve Banasiak (H-F teacher); Geof Rinkenberger (H-F alumnus, ’00); Greg Matushek (H-F alumnus, ’07); and Lonnie Small (H-F alumnus, ’07).

This concert is the culmination of a partnership that Staff Infection had throughout the 2013-14 school year with H-F’s Industry of Music, an elective class managed by the English Department. Students in the class learned the business of music, through promoting Staff Infection through social media and by managing a photo shoot and creating promotional materials.
