Jesse Jackson Jr. Makes First Public Appearance
ABC 7 News has exclusive video of Jackson Jr. at Operation PUSH gathering, reporting that this may be part of a publicity push prior to his sentencing.
Jesse Jackson Jr. is scheduled for sentencing on June 28. On Saturday, he joined his father at a Rainbow PUSH Coalition gathering in his first public appearance since pleading guilty in February to misusing campaign funds. His attorney, C.K. Hoffler, spoke to the group and mentioned the outpouring of support the ex-congressman his receiving. She asked those people to make sure the judge knows how they feel. "Our judge needs to know, needs to understand, the character and the qualities of this extraordinary congressman. ... This is the time to let the judge know how important he is to you." Martin Luther King Jr., Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jackson and Eddie Van Halen shared places in the memorabilia collection the disgraced former congressman of the 2nd District treated himself to with campaign money.
Federal prosecutors filed criminal information in the case against Jesse Jackson Jr. Friday afternoon in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., accusing the ex-congressman of spending $750,000 in campaign funds on memorabilia, furs, gold watches and other extravagances. In Case 1:13-cr-00058-RLW, the United States of America vs. Jesse Jackson Jr., he faces charges of conspiracy, false statements, mail fraud and wire fraud, and the government is seeking forfeiture of assets. His wife is charged with filing false income tax returns. Jackson's lawyers negotiated a plea deal for him. Read the federal document for a full list of goods the feds want the Jacksons to turn over.

Jim Hickey Running for Jesse Jackson Jr.’s Old Seat
The Orland Fire Protection District’s board president announced Thursday that he will be running for the 2nd Congressional District in the upcoming special election.
The race to replace Jesse Jackson’s Jr. just got another runner. James Hickey, the Orland Fire Protection District board president who lost to Rep. Bill Foster in the March primary, announced his intention to campaign for the recently-opened 2nd Congressional District seat. Hickey joins an ever-lengthening list of candidates now including recently re-elected State Sen. Toi Hutchinson, former congresswoman and Hutchinson’s previous boss Debbie Halvorson, former state representative Robin Kelly, former NFL running back Napolean Harris and former congressman Mel Reynolds, who himself resigned from the 2nd district in 1995 after he was convicted of sex crimes. Toi Hutchinson Announces Run for Jesse Jackson Jr.'s Congressional Seat
The Olympia Fields Democrat was re-elected in November to the 40th state Senate seat, which represents parts of Chicago Heights, Flossmoor, Frankfort, Homewood and New Lenox.
Illinois Sen. Toi Hutchinson (D-Olympia Fields) announced Thursday that she will run for the 2nd Congressional District seat recently vacated by Jesse Jackson Jr. Hutchinson, who was appointed a state senator in 2009 after Debbie Halvorson was elected to Congress, was re-elected to the 40th district seat in November, winning over Tuck Marshall (R-Frankfort). If the Irish can stack government with family, the Puerto Rican can, too, says Berrios, who has several family members on his assessor's staff and a host of others on county, school and state payrolls.

2nd Congressional District Special Election Could Cost Millions of Dollars
Hoping to cut down on costs, Cook County Clerk David Orr will ask a judge to allow the election to coincide with the 2013 municipal elections.
Cook County Clerk David Orr is hoping to schedule the special elections to fill the 2nd Congressional District seat to coincide with the suburban municipal elections next February and April. "Synchronizing the election dates will save at least $1 million, reduce voter confusion, enable all military voters to cast ballots and possibly boost turnout," Orr said in a statement released Wednesday after Jesse Jackson Jr.'s resignation. Orr and the clerks in Chicago, Will County and Kankakee county will need to coordinate efforts and seek a judge's permission to move the election. Jesse Jackson Jr. to Keep 2nd District Seat
Unofficial results show the 17-year congressman took the race by a wide margin, even without making an appearance in his district since June.
Jesse Jackson Jr. will remain the 2nd District congressman after defeating his opponents in the general election. Jackson took more than 60 percent of the vote, with more than 60 percent of precincts reporting across Will, Cook, and Kankakee counties, as well as the City of Chicago, around 10 p.m. Wednesday. Jackson's Republican opponent Brian Woodworth was frank when it came to discussing the congressman's absence from the campaign trail. “I don’t really have anyone to concede to, do I?"
