The Homewood Village Board agreed to draft an ordinance creating a new liquor license to cater to an up-and-coming downtown craft beer and boutique wine shop.
Homewood is one step closer to getting a new craft beer and boutique wine store, after village trustees Tuesday voted in favor of drafting an ordinance to create a new liquor license catered to the potential shop. Ron Khalaf, owner of Vino e Birra in La Grange and former owner of the now-closed Barley and Hopps in Glenwood, was present during Tuesday night’s board meeting to present his concept. Khalaf said he has 20 years' experience in the liquor business and has been working closely with the village for over six months to determine a location for his new store, tentatively named Grapes and Grain Company. “I’m not coming to Homewood to open another liquor store,” Khalaf said. “It’s going to be a very classy place.” According to Khalaf, …

Homewood's Village Board voted unanimously during last Tuesday's meeting to award no more than $20,116 to Jacob Grad of Allied Realty for improvements to his property at 18141 Dixie Highway. Grad’s application for the incentive funding was “one of the better applications,” Homewood Community Development Director Paula Wallrich has seen, she said. “This is the real intent of a TIF,” Village President Richard Hofeld said. “(Allied Realty) is a pleasure to work with.” Trustee Tom Kataras took issue with the bid process in the agreement, though. Village President Richard Hofeld issued a proclamation acknowledging the 100thAnniversary of St. Joseph Parish. Check in the media box for a video of St. Joseph Pastor Father Richard Kozak’s response. “Construction of the bike plan will begin next month,” announced Assistant Village Manager Jim Marino during the manager’s report. Accordin to Marino, IDOT will begin work on the first week of June. He said to expect completion within six weeks to two months. Trustee Heiferman said he is “Excited to get the bike plan going.” He’s also looking forward to putting together a local bike committee in the near future.
